1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how TeachSmarts handles information through The Reportinator. We aim to handle personal information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Contact us at andrew@teachsmarts.com.

2. Information We Collect

We may collect Google account details, teacher email addresses, classroom names, student names, student email addresses where available, enrolments, coursework, submission states, grades, due dates, topics, Drive comment metadata, support messages, billing status, and basic device or browser information used for security and reliability.

3. Google Data

When you sign in with Google or authorise Google features, we receive the account information and access tokens needed to provide the features you request. We use Google access only to sync the active classes you teach, show student coursework, surface related Drive comments, create spreadsheet exports, and send student email summaries when you choose that action.

4. How We Collect Information

We collect information directly from teachers, from Google APIs after authorisation, from Firebase authentication and hosting services, from Stripe billing services where subscription is enabled, and from automatic logs used for security, reliability, and abuse prevention.

5. How We Use Information

We use personal information to provide The Reportinator, authenticate users, build classroom directories, calculate metrics, export summaries, send email reports, enforce plan access, provide support, improve reliability, prevent misuse, and comply with legal obligations.

6. Disclosure

We may disclose information to service providers that help operate The Reportinator, including cloud hosting, authentication, Google API, payment, email, monitoring, and support providers. We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect the service, users, or students. We do not sell personal information.

7. Storage and Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards such as access controls, rate limits, and restricted administrative access. Classroom data is processed in the browser while you use the app, and local browser preferences are stored only on that device. No online service can be guaranteed completely secure.

8. Retention

We retain information for as long as needed to provide the service, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, maintain records, and protect the service, then delete or de-identify it where reasonably practicable.

9. Access, Correction, and Deletion

You may request access to or correction of personal information we hold about you. Teachers or schools may also request deletion of classroom or student information where appropriate. Contact andrew@teachsmarts.com and we will respond within a reasonable time.

10. Overseas Processing

Some providers may store or process information outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to use reputable providers and protect information in a way that is consistent with this Privacy Policy and applicable privacy obligations.

11. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy as the service changes or legal requirements change. The latest version will be available in the app.
